MM2 Seer Guide: Why One Knife Is the Measuring Stick for Every Trade
Seer Is a Unit of Measurement, Not Just a Knife
Every serious MM2 value list — ours included — is Seer-calibrated: Seer sits at roughly 25 points, and everything else is priced as multiples of it. A 2,500-point Chroma Saw is “a hundred Seers.” That convention exists because Seer is the one godly with a fixed, repeatable production cost, which makes it the closest thing the economy has to a currency.
Understanding that turns every confusing trade into arithmetic.
Where Seer Comes From
Three sources, one of which is special:
- Crafting — the anchor. Salvage unwanted godlys into Legendary Shards; 20 shards craft one Seer. Because anyone can produce a Seer at a known cost, its price can’t drift far — arbitrage snaps it back. This crafting recipe is the peg holding the whole system together.
- Unboxing — Seer rolls from boxes like other godlys, adding steady supply.
- Trading — the most common way newcomers get their first one, usually for a small bundle of legendaries.
The Seer Math Habit
Before accepting any trade, convert both sides to Seers:
- A Raygun in the 1,300-1,450 band ≈ 55 Seers.
- An offer of “three legendaries and two commons” for it ≈ maybe 2-3 Seers of real value.
- Seen that way, the fleece is instant and obvious — no memorized price sheet required.
This habit is the single fastest upgrade for a new trader, and it’s why we list Seer explicitly as the baseline row on the value list.
Is Seer Itself Worth Holding?
As a knife: it’s iconic — the original “see the murderer” legend skin — and every collection eventually has one. As an asset: no. Its craftable supply means it will never appreciate; demand sits at 3/10 precisely because anyone who wants one can make one. Hold chromas and retired event items for value; hold Seer for utility.
The smart pattern most veterans follow:
- Keep one Seer as your measuring stick and trade lubricant (small trades often want a Seer to balance the scales).
- Convert surplus Seers upward — two or three Seers plus a mid godly is a clean step toward the chroma floor.
Common Seer Mistakes
- Salvaging tradeable godlys into shards. Check the value list first: a godly trading above ~1.5 Seers is worth more whole than as 1/20th of a craft.
- Treating all “godly” offers as equal. “I’ll give you a godly for it” spans a 20x value range. Ask which one, convert to Seers, then decide.
- Hoarding Seers as savings. Craftable = inflation-proof for the system, not for you. Park long-term value in scarce items, per the trading guide.
Once Seer math feels natural, graduate to the chroma market — the same arithmetic, one floor up.
